Often as adults we think that we can enrich our faith only by reading books on spirituality or by watching PBS broadcasts on faith, but the reality is that our faith is deepened and honed better in community - studying with other committed Christians who not only want to learn about Jesus or spend time in prayer, but who also want to discover and share the impact of their faith on the world and on their own lives.
We begin our Thursday evenings with the Eucharist at 6:30. At the end of the Mass we move to Houghton Hall for an hour of study and conversation with some snacks on the side to tide us over. Topics range from studying Acts to considering the place of faith in our financial or investment decisions. Sometimes we have readings and sometimes not, but whether you are a Biblcal scholar or a novice there is a place at the table for you.
Other opportunities for adult formation include Sunday mornings at 9 AM with a look at the lectionary text for the week with the pastor and other seasonal events. Inquirer's classes are offered once each year - times to be announced.
Lenten Adult Formation Opportunities
Make a commitment this Lent to grow in your faith. An important aspect of growth is study.
Beginning on February 23 the Thursday study group will begin a Lenten study of scripture, tradition, and reason as we understand them in the Episcopal Church. This Inquirer's Class is open to all and will serve as adult formation in preparation for the April 30 confirmation. Adults interested in confirmation should contact Rev'd Jane to schedule a time to talk about this program.
On Wednesday evenings in Lent the six Episcopal churches of the Lower merrimack Vally will have a progressive Bible study. Each Wednesday evening we will travel to a different church for supper, study, and fellowship. Contact the church office for more information and times and place.
Each year in the spring our diocese offers an opportunity for parishes to learn about new programs and ideas. This year the workshop is on March 3 (Saturday) from 9 to 4. In preparation for the workshop and as a community building formation time the Thursday adult formation group will use the Epiphany Series based on the Road to Emmaus story. We will share our own stories of journey with God and learn from each other how we can be more supportive of our companions on the Way. I invite you to join the group on Thursday evenings after the 6:30 worship. The series will begin on Jan 19 and continue throughFebruary 16.
